Rosalie Marsh is an award-winning author and a native of Lancashire with Irish roots. Brought up in Lancashire, today she lives in North Wales where she settled with her husband and growing family. Rosalie has written many academic,vocational,technical and research materials in her long and varied career in banking,sales management,and further education. It was during this latter period that she gained a BA (Hons) Education Degree from the Manchester Metropolitan University. Rosalie retired to concentrate on her writing. Her first book Just Us Two:Ned and Rosie's Gold Wing Discovery,winner in the 2010 International Book Awards (Travel: Recreational category),was also a UK best seller and finalist in the USA Book News 2009 Best Books Awards. There are travel writers and then there is that special breed – writers who travel. Travel writers fulfill a very important information sharing role but it is the writers that travel who make you yearn to follow in their footsteps. With a Michelin Green Guide to Italy in one hand and Rosalie Marsh’s book in the other, any travelers, but particularly seniors, will need nothing else!
There is immediacy to the journeys described, as though chatting over the day’s adventures over a cosy cup of coffee with an excellent raconteur friend. From the blush inducing experience of climbing down a long slippery ladder in skirt and high heels to a vaporetto in Venice, fears of losing her sandal climbing the dome of St Peters to embarrassing encounters with Heathrow Customs involving the additional contents hidden in her straw hat, the highs and lows make this a really entertaining 'read'!
I was nervous, having enjoyed the Harley Davidson rides of the ‘Just Us Two’ books, that this book – sans motorbike - would not stand up to the stunning memories of the Italy of my childhood living in Rome and camping in the more unknown spots with family and of course subsequent holidays over the years since. Not a bit of it, Rosalie’s charming and often irreverent comments not only inform but resonate and amuse. ‘Himself’ with his laconic asides just adds to the delightful mix!
